Want to create a website for your business? Whether first or next?
Not sure how to choose the best domain possible?
Nowadays, it is very difficult to come across a free domain containing exactly the keywords you need.
However, choosing a domain plays a very important role in your promotion on the Internet.
In this article, you will find 9 tips for choosing the most suitable domain.
1. Keywords in the domain name
Domain must contain destination keywords. When choosing a domain name, it is always most important that it includes your target keywords.
Keywords are also very important for search engines in order to get the best position among search results.
Choose from your list the words and phrases that are most important to you and look for a domain that will be free and contain these words.
To learn more about keywords, see Keywords and Phrases.
2. Do a survey of the internet, competition and search phrases
If you need to find out which keyword phrase will work best for you, do an internet survey. For more detailed instructions, see Internet Research and Choosing the Right Keywords and Phrases.
Choose keywords that are often searched for and (if possible) not very competitive. The less competition, the easier it will be to get to the top of the search results.
3. Domain suffix
The domain should have the suffix .com. If you choose a different extension, people may be confused and even if they know the domain name, it will not be easy for them to find your website.
Even from the point of view of search engines, it is best to choose the suffix .com for websites .
4. Dashes in the domain name
Domain should not contain dashes. Due to poor remembering, try to avoid using hyphens in the domain name.
Especially for a website address that consists of three or more words, it is inappropriate and impractical to use hyphens.
Imagine telling someone the address: “the world of the carriage dash dash in the dash of London”. Believe me, he will most likely forget this address very quickly.
5. Digits in the domain name
Domain should not contain numbers. As with hyphens, avoid using numbers. When entering a domain, people are often unsure and do not know whether to write numbers as numbers or words.
Of course, there are exceptions where the phrase is a well-known term and is therefore suitable for use in a domain name. However, the use of numbers is generally not recommended.
6. The domain name must make sense
The domain name should make sense. Although search engines should be kept in mind when choosing a domain and creating a website, keep in mind that you are primarily creating your website for live visitors.
The domain name must therefore make sense to them in particular. So try to choose a domain name that, when you tell someone, they can easily associate it with you and your business.
7. Easy to remember domain name
The domain should be easy to remember. Your domain should contain as few words as possible. So that people can remember it easily. If your domain name is short and meaningful, as we mentioned in the previous point, people will easily remember it, even if someone else will need your services later.
A well-remembered name also allows you to easily share a web address with people through a variety of media – text, audio and video.
8. What is the website about?
The domain should tell you what the site is about. If you tell someone or write the address of your website, it should be immediately clear to the person what your website is about and what they will find on it.
This is a bit of a problem if you only enter your business name in your domain name. People often don’t know what your business is about and what it offers, which may not motivate them to click on your link in search results.
My personal opinion is that it is better to always put some keywords in the title. Alternatively, you can add the company name at the end. The name of the company will in most cases face minimal competition.
9. What to do if the ideal domain is occupied?
If the ideal domain is occupied, it is advisable to add an extension to the key phrase. But it must make sense and it must look as if it is in the domain name intentionally, not out of necessity.
If your ideal domain is busy, use one or more of the following options:
- If appropriate, append the name of the area where you offer your services to the end of the domain.
- Place your business name after the keywords. However, make sure that the domain name is not too long and that it is easy to remember.
- Use tools that offer search statistics (for Google ) to see if words in a different form should be used. If you find that another shape is about as often sought after, you have a problem.
- If the domain name is not too long, add an additional word.
Of course, there are many possibilities, all you have to do is really think about the domain and also cooperate with statistical tools when deciding on its final form. You want to have frequently searched phrases in your domain name.
